The sweet debate: Krispy Kreme vs. Dunkin Donuts. We’re sharing the reasons why there will always be a divide in the donut world. Read the reasons here!

Krispy Kreme vs. Dunkin Donuts.

Donut you know the difference?

This is an old-fashioned issue which doesn’t get much press.

Probably because it’s plain. As a result, it gets glazed over by the media and is sprinkled with alternative facts.

That’s why we’ve decided to bear claw our way to the front of this issue.

Not every donut iscreated equal.Join us as we examine the differences between these two leading donut chains.

With a bit of luck, we can close the circle on this risingdoughbate.

1. History

Krispy Kreme was founded in 1937.

Dunkin Donuts appeared on the scene in 1950.

Which is all well and good, but Krispy Kreme has been doing it longer, and better.

In fact, the classic glazed donut hasn’t changed since 1945.

2. “Special” donuts

Both chains feature a variety of selections. However, the quality and creativity of these confections varies greatly.

Krispy Kreme, for example, has teamed up with Reese’s to develop it’sPeanut Butter Donut.

Dunkin Donuts, on the other hand, has created a monstrosity by mashing itscoffee together with Pop-Tarts. Yes. You read that right.

3. Coffee

According toKrispy Kreme’s FAQ page, their coffee is not fair trade. But, for a noble reason. The page states, “growers with small farms may not grow enough coffee to qualify for Fairtrade status.”

As a result, the company purchases its coffee at higher prices, directly from the farm.

Meanwhile, Dunkin Donuts throws their coffee into Pop-Tarts. To be fair, though, focusing on coffee sales did revitalize the brand. Plus, it’s guaranteed to be fresh.

4. Free stuff

Since we’re on the topic of coffee, you should know Krispy Kreme has revamped their brews. And they want to share it with you.

During the month of February, the chain will give you a free donut with apurchase of coffee.

Dunkin Donuts also wants to help you celebrate February, but only for one day. And that day has already passed.

But, if you fancy a free heart-shaped donut, stop in on Valentine’s day next year.

Oh, we almost forgot…Krispy Kreme also gives away free hats.

5. The “Hot Light”

When the donuts are hot and fresh, Krispy Kreme turns on the “hot light.”

There’s an app for that, too, by the way.

The mobile app alerts users when donuts are hot and fresh, and even directs them to the nearest location.

Dunkin Donuts prefers to focus on selling coffee, though. Stores no longer make their donuts in-house, rather they have their product shipped in from factories.

If you’ve ever seen Krispy Kreme glaze drizzled over their freshly made donuts, it’s hard to consider bringing your business anywhere else.

6. The taste

It’s hard to beat the taste of a freshly made Krispy Kreme donut. Still warm and sticky with glaze, the donuts seem to melt in your mouth.

Dunkin Donuts chooses to focus on fresh coffee rather than fresh donuts. As a result, they are often stale and hole-ly disappointing.

You don’t have to take our word for it. We knowhow serious you are about your donuts.
