Among this year’s successful graduates is Dingfa Liang, who leaves Queen Mary with a great level of confidence and gratitude:

"Queen Mary is a research-intensive institution, a member of the Russell Group, located in London's East End and has a world-renowned Faculty of Medicine. I feel very fortunate to be able to spend three years here, interacting with excellent professors, absorbing cutting-edge medical knowledge, and realising the importance of independent and lifelong learning."

Prof Mark Maconochie, Co-Director of the Nanchang Joint Programme and
Professor of Biomedical Sciences, said:

The cohort of 2019 graduated this Wednesday culminating from five years of hard work, much of it having to learn with Queen Mary staff teaching and support through remote teaching during the pandemic. Despite this, their efforts and achievements over the last five years have made all Queen Mary and Nanchang University staff involved in their learning, from teachers, technical, clinical and professional services staff so very proud! Students, and now of course graduates, and their parents have come from all over China to receive their awards on what is a magnificent and joyful occasion. From the JP team and I: congratulations and good luck - we know our students will continue to succeed!

QMES was the first Sino-Foreign Joint Educational Institution (JEI) to be established in the Northwest region of China. Students can currently choose from two degrees in the Materials Sciences, whose structure is based on Queen Mary’s BEng Materials Science and Engineering.

During his speech, Principal and President of Queen Mary University, Professor Colin Bailey, praised the combination of skills acquired at QMES as being “in very short supply in the world today and essential to the future economy and society, in China and across the rest of the world.”

Taught jointly by NPU staff and Queen Mary staff from the London campus in English, the degrees prepare students for careers in the expanding material science and manufacturing industry as well as for higher degrees and research within universities in China and internationally.
