Indianapolis Colts GM Chris Ballard has invested in the tight end position through the draft on several occasions over the past few years and has built out a position group with a wide variety of skill sets.

Last season, Mo Alie-Cox and Drew Ogletree finished second and third on the team in total snaps at the tight end position and were often been asked to do the dirty work and run-block in Shane Steichen’s offense. With two tight end sets the Colts’ second-highest used personnel grouping in 2023, both Ali-Cox and Ogletree play an important role in the offense as a whole, but particularly in the run game, where, by PFF’s metrics, they were two of the better blockers at tight end.

With Jelani Woods healthy, the Colts’ tight end room is a bit crowded, which is one reason why PFF picked Alie-Cox as a potential cut candidate when 53-man rosters are finalized. He is entering the final year of his deal, and there is no guaranteed portion remaining, so waiving him would save the Colts $5.92 million in cap space. Whether this move will happen remains to be seen but will be dependent upon how Alie-Cox performs as well as Ogletree and if the Colts are comfortable increasing his workload.

When it comes to PFF’s grading system, it is far from the be-all-end-all in terms of player evaluation. It is just one tool within the tool belt. However, generally speaking, when a player is performing really well, PFF’s grades reflect that, and the same can be said for when a player is performing not so well.

Below, you will find Alie-Cox and Ogletree’s PFF run-blocking grades from the 2023 season, along with the 30 other highest-graded members of this position group in this category. To be eligible for this list, tight ends had to have at least 93 run-blocking snaps.

Here is a look at PFF’s grading system to provide some context behind the numbers:

90.0+: Elite
80-89.9: High quality
70-79.9: Good
60-69.9: Above average
50-59.9: Average
40-49.9: Below average
39.9 or less: Poor
