Kitten explorer looking for exciting new frontiers! Pinto is a bit small for his age, but is trying to remedy that by practicing for the Coney Island cat-food-eating contest. He can chow down lots of wet food in a very short amount of time. He’ll also eat dry food, but it is not nearly as tasty. Freeze-dried chicken livers are his favorite treats. Pinto is improving his strength and agility, important traits for an explorer, by playing with the pom-pom ball, chasing the laser pointer dot and wrestling with his bigger brother Pippin. Pinto leaps from box to box and climbs his wicker scratcher/bed/perch. His curiosity will help him make some exciting new discoveries. Though he has a large room to play in now, Pinto waits by the door to try to slip from this limited space – with little success. Pinto is a little furry ball of energy and enjoys getting into the smallest nooks, but he is surprisingly relaxed when it comes time for medicine or nail trimming.
Pinto is looking for a new exploration leader (family) that can offer lots of exercise equipment (toys) and plenty of encouragement. There must be at least one good lap for snuggling and regular petting is required. Wet food is a requirement and if he’s hungry, he’ll squeak until he gets some. He’d love lots of safe places to curl up for a nap, but don’t be surprised if he needs to explore the space under your feet.
Very young kittens (dependent on their mother) cannot go more than a few hours without feeding. Older kittens may be able to go for a couple of days without eating, but after 24 hours they may become malnourished and weak.

Anything from a clogged nose to intestinal cat parasites, cat constipation or an upset tummy can contribute to your kitten not eating. This is why it's very important to ask for professional help if your kitten is not eating.
Unfortunately, orphaned kittens less than 4 weeks old cannot live without their mother, and must be bottle fed around the clock in order to survive. Thankfully, most discoveries of newborn kittens do not call for human assistance, and in fact, leaving Mom and her family alone is generally the best thing you can do.
It is a common misconception that a mother cat will not care for her kittens if they are touched, but don't worry she doesn't mind. However, don't be surprised if they're moved the next time you check on them! If you find neonatal kittens the best thing to do is leave them alone! Mom will most likely come back.
