First Step: Begin by mixing together the diced apples, cinnamon, and 2 tbsp sugar in a small bowl. Set aside

Second Step: Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt until combined in a large mixing bowl.

Third Step: In a separate bowl, whisk together the oil, orange juice, sugar, vanilla, and eggs until combined.

Fourth Step: Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients. Don’t add the dry ingredients in too quickly.

Fifth Step: Lightly grease your bundt pan with baking spray.

Sixth Step: Next, pour half the batter into the springform pan.

Seventh Step: Spread half the diced apples on top of the batter in an even layer.

Eighth Step: Pour the remaining batter on top of the apples and pour the remaining diced apples and juices onto the top layer of the cake batter.

Ninth Step: Cover the springform pan with foil, carefully.

Tenth Step: Add 1 cup of water into the insert of the Instant Pot then place the trivet inside.

Eleventh Step: Place the springform onto the trivet and close the lid.

Twelfth Step: Turn the Instant Pot to manual for 60 minutes. Then close the lid and make sure vent is closed.

Thirteenth Step: Once the timer goes off, allow to natural pressure release before removing the lid. This may take several minutes; this is normal.

Instant Pot Apple Cake Variations

Apple cake has been around forever. There are tons of variations out there, and while I think this is the best apple cake recipe already, you can always toss in some extra flavors. Here are my go-to ingredients to add in:

  • Pecans – I love any kind of cake, brownies, or other fall dessert recipes with pecans. They just add a hint of flavor to the easy apple cake, and I enjoy the texture.
  • Raisins – If you are a fan of raisins, then you should add in 1/2 cup of them to the batter! They taste yummy and look fabulous in the cake.
  • Mini Chocolate Chips – I don’t think you can ever go wrong adding in a little bit of chocolate to most desserts! Don’t go crazy; just 1/2 cup will be plenty.
  • Butterscotch chips – Butterscotch and apples are complimentary flavors. You will be surprised at how amazing it is!
  • Pears – They add incredible flavor and texture to this pressure cooker apple cake. Try it for yourself, because I know you will be impressed! Just replace 1 cup of apples with diced pears instead.

How Do You Cut Apples For Apple Cake?

You will first want to peel the apples for the cake. Many apple recipes don’t require the skin to be removed, but with this fall dessert, the result will be much better without the peel. Then use a fruit dicer or cut them by hand, so they are in 1-inch pieces. If you prefer them to be smaller or larger pieces, you can adjust according to your preference.

Can I Cut Apples Ahead Of Time?

Yes, you can cut the apples ahead of time for this apple cake recipe. You just want to follow one of the following methods to prevent the apples from turning brown:

  • Keep the apples in a bowl with 1 1/2 cups of cold water and 1 1/2 Tablespoons of lemon juice. Stir it around and place the apples in the fridge until you are ready to bake with them.
  • Use a can of clear pop to prevent browning. Simply add the sliced or diced apples to the pop and leave in an airtight bowl until ready to use.
  • Soak the apples in pineapple juice. Use 1 – 1 1/2 cups and toss the apples in. You can dilute it with water if you prefer too.
  • Use citric acid to keep the apples from turning brown. Mix 1 teaspoon of citric acid per 1 cup of water. Stir until the citric acid is dissolved then add in apples.
  • Use honey and water to keep the diced apples looking fresh. Use 1 cup of cold water and 2 tablespoons of honey. Place in the fridge until you are ready to make the pressure cooker apple cake.

How Do You Store This Instant Pot Apple Cake?

This fall dessert can be stored in the fridge or on the counter depending on your preference. No matter where you keep it, it needs to be kept in an airtight container with a lid. This will keep it fresh longer. If you keep the apple dessert on the counter, it will last 2-3 days, and if you put it in the fridge, it lasts 4-5 days.

When ready to serve, you can warm it in the microwave for 20-30 seconds or eat it cold. Either way, it tastes great! Especially if you serve it with ice cream.

Can I Freeze Pressure Cooker Apple Cake?

Yes, you can freeze leftover cake! Just wrap it tightly in plastic wrap or tin foil, place the individual servings in an airtight container, then put in the freezer. It will last 2-3 months in the freezer. Just take it out an place it in the fridge or on the counter until thawed then it’s ready to eat.

FAQs

What is the cake setting on Instant Pot? ›

The Cake Maker setting on the Instant Pot is not “baking” by circulating dry, hot air around the food to cook it. Instead, it is utilizing the same function as Pressure Cook by heating water past its boiling temperature and using the resulting steam to cook the food.

Can you use any cake pan in Instant Pot? ›

Step 1: Pick the Right Pan

Both sizes are too large to fit in a standard 6-quart Instant Pot. You'll need a 6-inch round cake pan like this one. Six-inch cake pans are available in many baking stores, online here, and you can use them for far more than Instant Pot recipes! I actually love this smaller-size pan.

Can you bake in an Instant Pot? ›

Not only that—Instant Pots can slow cook, roast, bake, steam, air fry, and dehydrate countless ingredients, helping to create some of the most tasty and memorable dishes.

Can you use eating apples instead of cooking apples in a cake? ›

You can use any eating apples that are in season, or any that you have to hand, but my favourites are Cox's Orange Pippins and Braeburn apples for flavour.

What setting is best for baking cakes? ›

You want the cake to cook evenly all around. So the best option is to use top and bottom heat together or fan assisted heat where it is blown around the oven. You want to also pre heat the oven so it not only reaches temperature on the dial but also all the elements in the oven are to temperature.

What is the best setting to bake a cake? ›

"If in doubt - and as a very general rule - 180 degrees celsius conventional or 160 degrees celsius fan-forced, is a good place to start for most baked goods."

Is it better to bake in a pressure cooker or oven? ›

Pressure Cooker cakes, cookies, and bread cook much faster than those made in an oven. Monitor the times accordingly. Preheat the oven before you put in your ingredients. Don't keep opening the pressure cooker to check on your ingredients since that might help the heat to escape and cause the cake or bread to collapse.

Can I use and cake tin in a pressure cooker? ›

If baking tin comes into direct contact with the base of the pressure cooker, it can burn ( overbake ) the cake. So use pressure cooker container which has big holes in it or any aluminum small stand.

What type of apple is best for baking a cake? ›

Granny Smith (Tart)

Granny Smiths are typically my go-to apple for baking, so I'll always have them on hand during the fall months. Their tart, citrusy flavor make them perfect for sweet baked goods, where there's sugar in the recipe. I love using these for homemade caramel apples, too.

What apples are best for cake? ›

Probably obvious, but the type of apple you bake with will affect the flavor and texture of your cake! Most recipes recommended Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples for a heartier texture that will hold up for a longer bake time. (MacIntosh are notoriously soft if you prefer that texture!)

Should you peel apples before baking? ›

peel your apples. While the debate on whether or not to peel your apples seems never-ending, it really comes down to a matter of personal choice. Unpeeled apples will add a bit of color and texture to your pie, but they may prevent the apples from melding together when baked.

Can I use a cake pan instead of a tube pan? ›

If you'd really like to make a holiday bundt cake but don't own a tube pan, there's no need to rush out and buy one. This simple hack using a cake pan and a ramekin works just as well! Ruhlman says he simply places a glass cup or ramekin in the middle of a cake pan before pouring the batter inside.

Does the type of cake pan matter? ›

The Criteria: What to Look for in a Cake Pan

We prefer light-colored aluminum, anodized aluminum, or aluminized steel pans over other materials, especially those that are dark-colored or non-stick. Dark pans conduct too much heat, baking cakes too fast on the outside.
