[FiberOptic] What's this about nationwide outages?

I'm reading elsewhere that there are massive outages all over the country. I'm not down, but I get a bad password when logging into my account.

This a mere day after getting back up from a broken cable thanks to a jerk neighbor.

I read someone saying that Azure systems are throwing up errors and that is why? The timing of this could have been bad for me, because I just got my cable drop replaced and that would have been delayed.

Dr, your whining on here is somewhat annoying, but yes, I can't log into my Frontier account either.

It's not an internet outage, it's a Frontier backend outage. Website and app down. If your internet works, there is nothing to worry about. If you were expecting a tech today, too bad, 'cause they can't do anything at the moment and you will have to wait for them to fix the issue and reschedule.

Re: [FiberOptic] What's this about nationwide outages?

Hoping the best for you folks at the company. You guys do an awesome job, I don't know how it seems that I'm not happy, it's been great. I have plenty of tech questions, but you guys are awesome. Hang in there Frontier. I hope you get through this well. I wonder if this is a foreign hacking issue, lots of that happening from two specific countries. There is a lot of whining over in Reddit I see.

When you lose service it really really sucks, but it happens. In my case last week it was a bad neighbor, but Frontier was fast on it.

They will emerge from this stronger and more secure I'm sure.

Hello, I just discovered that my Youtube TV account is apparently not working tonight. Which I purchased and paid for through Frontier. I'm assuming that means I'm out of luck until the backend outage is fixed? Yeah my Internet connection is fine - my other streaming accounts seem to be fine.

My one issue is that I get a bad password error when trying to log into my account on the webpage.

I wonder, could it be an Eero issue for many? Or is something nefarious happening?

A lot of folks like me still have internet, their webpage has a banner that there is an internal issue but residential and business service is running.

I think this is going to happen to more companies if it is nefarious.

Hoping for the folks who've lost connection.

The back end issue should not be affecting your YouTube TV account. Are you using a GMail account as your credentials in it?

I've never had an outage since signing up last July, except when "Stupid" next door cut my drop-down.

I see so many complaints but for me, there were some CSR issues early on, but those aren't a problem since.

I really hope this doesn't damage the company, but if it does, it's only a matter of time for Comcast, Spectrum, Cox, and Altice (?) go down.

There have been attempts on our power grid, water grid, municipal operations, schools. For me, it's kind of like we are already at war with certain countries.

Could ICANN do something if things go too far with this cyber war?

Yep, and other accounts attached to my Google account work fine - including Youtube Premium! However when I log into tv.youtube.com, it asks if I want a free trial. Like I said, I signed up for and am paying for Youtube TV through Frontier as opposed to paying for it separately.

My Frontier Internet ends in another 6 days as I have decided to return to Greenlight Networks fiber, but it is interesting that this issue still exists this morning and that they have not been able to rectify it.

Somebody on Reddit says don't kill power or reset modem or ONT during this, or you might lose internet entirely until this is fixed. The fact that this is going on quietly would seem to indicate cyber warfare in my mind and they are quietly working with the US Government to respond. In my opinion, the US needs to commence ops in those countries doing this.

Sure, who knows if I am right. But I'm guessing Frontier might not be at fault or not totally at fault and they are pulling their hair out.

Its a data breach

On April 14, 2024, Frontier Communications Parent, Inc. (the “Company”) detected that a third party had gained unauthorized access to portions of its information technology environment. Upon detection, the Company initiated its previously established cyber incident response protocols and took measures to contain the incident. As part of this process, the containment measures, which included shutting down certain of the Company’s systems, resulted in an operational disruption that could be considered material.

Based on the Company’s investigation, it has determined that the third party was likely a cybercrime group, which gained access to, among other information, personally identifiable information. As of the date of this filing, the Company believes it has contained the incident and has restored its core information technology environment and is in the process of restoring normal business operations. The Company continues to investigate the incident, has engaged cybersecurity experts, and has notified law enforcement authorities. The Company does not believe the incident is reasonably likely to materially impact the Company’s financial condition or results of operations.

They might not say who the cyber attackers were, but I did comment that this was the case. We are going to see a LOT more of this.

Our information is all in the wild already. When things are back up, change passwords!

We are at war in a sense.

DO NOT restart your ONT. With all backend systems down, it will not be able to reconnect. I'm seeing all kinds of messages from people in my area whose internet is down too.

Debatable, but I'm not willing to test the theory myself. [FiberOptic] What's this about nationwide outages? - Frontier Communications (25) Wish someone that has a good backup connection would test that out and see if they still receive an IP address after a ONT reboot.

Not debatable at all. Go ahead, try it. I'm not a reddit fan, but the thread over there is full of people in Garland, Plano and Lewisville TX who rebooted their ONT and are totally screwed.

Frontier can't take new orders. They can't fulfill orders that were in process at the time of the outage. They can't dispatch techs to customers who are having issues. Their systems are still down, with no indication whatsoever when they'll be back. Years ago, I was a CWA job steward at the good old Bell System. As I said, my condolences for my hard-working CWA brethren at Frontier.

Yeah, it could be a hack. But just like Boeing, it could be the result of offshoring critical IT functions to "lower cost" third world alternatives. I guess we'll see.

You sure like to speculate and generate FUD. We know is was a hack/intrusion, as it was disclosed in official paperwork to the SEC.

Thanks for that info. I hadn't seen that, and am happy to be corrected. There was, however, no speculation or FUD on my part about the catastrophic nature of this situation for Frontier and its employees and shareholders.

I have worked in the IT field for 40 years, and just recently retired. As the CEO of the company I just left said many times, "We don't need 'Cadillac IT,' just 'good enough IT.'" Given the widespread hacks, intrusions, and security breaches, not to mention engineering screwups that cause planes to fall from the sky, it's quite apparent they're getting what they're willing to pay for. You're sadly mistaken if you think that's "FUD."

Still not able to log in, on the Android app or Frontier website. On the website, I don't even get the account name and password page; just the banner saying "We'll be back.... We're experiencing technical issues with our internal support platforms."
